Latest Update:

"Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share, storing up for themselves a good foundation for the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life." —1 Timothy 6:18

Mission—sharing with others the good news of God’s love—can be considered the most important activity our church performs. During the past year, our brothers and sisters of Covenant Church have enriched the lives of others, themselves and the Church by their willingness to share their time, labor, knowledge and love.

Covenant's monetary budget for mission was $17,840, which provided monthly support for many missions including those of the General Assembly, Synod, Presbytery, Covenant's Deacons, Sterling College, and Presbyterian Missionaries Paul & Linda Fahnestock, teaching in Brazil; Tad and Jane Gilmore on medical mission in Nepal; and Yen Hee and Choon Lim, teaching and rendering medical aid in Taiwan.

The official budget also supported special needs requests including Presbyterian Children Services, the Rescue Mission for Presbytery small churches, the Junior High Mission Trip to Denver, and the Intergenerational Mission trip to New Mexico. But, Covenant's commitment to mission is much greater than the mission budget. Each year, Covenant gives generously to the Pentecost, One Great Hour of Sharing, Peacemaking, and Christmas Joy special offerings of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. In addition,

Covenant has long endowed future mission by supporting the Mission Vision Fund on each anniversary of the church. In 2002, twenty-five Covenant youth and adults traveled to assist the Presbyterian Churches of El Rito and El Mora, New Mexico, contributing over 1600 hours in labor, worship and fellowship. Throughout the year, Covenant members cooked and served dinners to raise additional funds for upcoming mission trips. And the excitement continues! Watch for news about upcoming Mission trips!

In a world continuing to turn its back on God, it is imperative that Covenant continually seek new ways to serve God and push to spread the Gospel. Covenant's deep commitment to mission in 2002 was evident through the work of its Deacons, who monetarily supported numerous Missions in the local community, including, Hutchinson Heights, Inter Faith Ministries Inn, Venture House Social Services, Mother to Mother Ministries, Good Samaritan Fund, Wichita Habitat for Humanity, Brotherhood Presbyterian Ministries, Central Kansas Prison Ministries, New Jerusalem Mission, World Impact, Youth Horizons, Salvation Army Help Fund, Sterling College and Presbyterian Disaster Relief.

In addition, the Deacons sponsor and devote hundreds of hours to the annual flea market, an important source of funds for the Deacon's Christmas Families. Each year, through the Deacons Christmas Families project, many local families in need (15 families in 2001 alone) receive Christmas groceries and gifts, many specifically selected by members of the congregation. The Deacons spend many hours coordinating, shopping, wrapping and delivering gifts and food. This important outreach extends the love of Christ and the joy of the season in a personal way into the homes of the families, and would not be possible without the labor, love and commitment of many. But such efforts are not limited to the holidays. The Deacon's food pantry operates year round and delivers donated food to the Kansas Food Bank for distribution. The Deacons continuously collect and deliver good used clothing to the Helping Hangers mission—clothing donated by the congregation, put to use by the labor of the Deacons.

Other special projects of the Deacons in 2005 include hosting the fellowship of Covenant's Thanksgiving Dinner and several Wednesday night suppers in support of the Presbyterian Disaster Relief Fund.
